Uterine rupture is a rare but deadly complication, defined as a complete tear of the uterine wall associated with fetal distress and the need for an emergency cesarean section, which may end in hysterectomy or uterine repair resulting in severe uterine bleeding, protrusion or expulsion of the placenta and/or fetus into the abdominal cavity. It occurs frequently in the second and third trimester of pregnancy and is usually associated with previous uterine surgery. As for their diagnosis, it is usually early, given the severity of the clinic with which they debut.
The aim of this work is to describe a clinical case of uterine rupture its diagnosis and timely treatment. Obtained informed consent from the patient and
authorization from the Teaching and Research Department of the Alfredo G Paulson Hospital for the review of medical records and access to images. We present the case of a 37-year-old patient with 29 weeks gestation and a history of previous uterine scar that presents a spontaneous uterine rupture, with an atypical evolution, in which the patient remains asymptomatic. Exploratory laparotomy is performed confirming the uterine rupture and obtaining a stillborn fetus in the abdominal cavity. It is concluded that uterine rupture is a serious event that represents a high morbidity and mortality for the mother and is almost always fatal for the product, It is therefore necessary to detect them early and, where possible, to take the necessary measures by means of appropriate antenatal care and monitoring protocols to prevent them from occurring.
