COVID-19 IN THE PEDIATRIC PATIENT. IS IT THE SAME AS THE ADULT? A LITERATURE REVIEW.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) that appeared in 2019 in Wuhan, China; it spread throughout the world, affecting different population groups; Children showed a different clinical behavior from the adult when faced with the infection. The research was developed with the aim of identifying the particularities of the contagion of the disease in children, in addition to specifying a global approach for this age group. A systematic search of the scientific literature about the disease focused on the pediatric patient was carried out in the main scientific databases, through controlled descriptors and without language restriction. The COVID-19 disease caused by the new coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, made the diagnosis and treatment difficult in a large percentage in children and adolescents, so infected children have clinical characteristics, laboratory findings and radiographic images different from adults. More studies are necessary for a better understanding of the risk associated with the disease in this group
