Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is a complex medical condition resulting from a combination of genetic, environmental, psychological and lifestyle factors. In view of the complexity of this multifactorial condition, the present investigation. Objective: To describe the latest strategies in the treatment of obesity. Materials and methods: Databases such as Academic Google, Pubmed, ScienceDirect, Mendeley and IntechOpen were reviewed. For the systematic search, the topic Last strategies in the treatment of obesity was used, selecting articles from randomized and nonrandomized studies published in the last 5 years. Results: Partial or complete remission of obesity and DM2 was achieved in 30% of the participants of gastric bypass surgery in Y of Roux, 19% with laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and in no participant with lifestyle intervention. Oral butyrate supplementation may be effective in the treatment of pediatric obesity. Bariatric-metabolic surgery is more effective than lifestyle interventions and optimized medical therapy in the treatment of obesity with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Among adults with severe obesity, bariatric surgery compared to improved lifestyle intervention with psychotherapy resulted in improved cardiopulmonary capacity and quality of life. Conclusions: In the current management of obesity in adults and adolescents, bariatric surgery is one of the most successful interventions and constitutes a fundamental role as a surgical strategy. In the pediatric population, treatment with drugs such as butyrate may be effective
